After starting his career at a large public accounting firm, Mark Perlson launched Perlson LLP in 1985.

Perlson is unique among CPAS on Long Island because he offers not only accounting services to businesses and business owners and professionals, but he also provides financial planning and wealth management services.

In addition to serving as Perlson LLP’s Managing Partner, Mark is Co-Founder and Director of Financial Services of JP Wealth Management Inc., a federally regulated Registered Investment Adviser. JP Wealth Management, which has an office in Charleston, SC as well as in New York, provides comprehensive wealth management services to Perlson LLP clients.

Perlson LLP, with its wealth management arm, represents the realization of Mark’s vision to comprehensively advise clients by leveraging the knowledge gained while serving as your accountant and tax advisor to also offer counsel on your personal finances.

A recognized expert in accounting, tax planning and profit enhancement for closely-held businesses and high-net-worth-individuals (HNWIs), attorneys often call upon Mark for advice on entity structure and the tax ramifications of business transactions their clients must make. Mark’s clients include high-net-worth individuals, healthcare practices, software companies, insurance brokers, and law firms. He has extensive experience in business mergers and acquisitions.

Mark is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA). He lectures frequently at the NYSSCPA Healthcare Conference, and is often quoted in Newsday, Financial Advisor, and other media outlets. 

Mark has served on the Board of Directors of the Solomon Schechter Day and High School of Long Island and is a past president of the Jericho Jewish Center.

James A. Dale, CPA - Partner

Jim is a Partner at Perlson LLP, where he specializes in business planning, state and local taxation at the individual and corporate level and estate taxation. He has extensive knowledge and experience in ERISA (employee benefit plan) audits and currently oversees the audits of two ambulatory surgical centers.

His clients include closely held businesses, high-net-worth individuals and technology companies. Jim’s experience and understanding of multistate taxation gives him the ability to build sound tax strategies and business plans for his clients. He works closely with business owners to develop their companies and translate complex tax and business advisory issues into actionable plans.

Jim is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA).

Michael C. Deo, CPA - Partner

Mike is a Partner at Perlson LLP, providing tax planning, accounting, and business planning services to closely held businesses and their owners, as well as high-net-worth individuals. His client base includes real estate developers and owners, food and beverage services, law firms, media-related companies, and the healthcare industry. He represents clients in both the U.S. and abroad and often provides complex tax and business planning for global businesses.

Mike manages due diligence engagements, securing financing, corporate structure and planning, and implementing business and tax strategies. He routinely helps companies identify the information necessary to increase profitability while minimizing taxes.

Mike is member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA). He is an active member of the NYSSCPA Real Estate Committee and has spoken at the NYSSCPA Healthcare Conference.

Michelle Maisel - Manager

Michelle has been with Perlson LLP since 1996. Previously, she had been in private accounting.  

Michelle specializes in accounting for franchises, healthcare, law firms, and printing clients. She has consulted in the area of efficiency for franchises and other businesses where her advice has helped her clients achieve increased profitability. In addition to her client-service duties, Michelle is responsible for Perlson LLP’s training and mentoring program.

Sandra Parra - Controller, Senior Staff Accountant

Sandra joined firm in 2006 as an accountant and is currently our Controller and a Senior Staff Accountant. A specialist in healthcare, she oversees the corporate accounting and bookkeeping for partners of the largest anesthesiology practice in the US. Additionally, Sandra’s duties include Perlson LLP’s own financial and tax preparation needs.

Joanne Hitchings, CPA – Senior Staff Accountant

Joanne is a Senior Staff Accountant and has been with Perlson LLP since 2010.  She has experience working with hospitality clients, law firms, and other commercial enterprises.  Before joining Perlson LLP she worked at a public accounting firm located in Manhattan where she performed commercial and nonprofit audits and prepared income and fiduciary tax returns. Joanne is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Andrew P. Meyer, CPA – Senior Staff Accountant

Andrew has been with Perlson LLP since 2013, where he provides tax planning, accounting, and business consulting services to closely held businesses and their owners, as well as high net worth individuals. Prior to joining Perlson LLP he worked as a staff accountant at a boutique accounting firm for five years. He represents clients from a wide range of industries including restaurant and hospitality, distribution, real estate, & professional services. His focus is to obtain an understanding of clients’ businesses to pinpoint information needed to devise planning opportunities that increase profitability & minimize taxes. Andrew is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA).

Benjamin Perlson, CPA – Senior Staff Accountant

Ben joined the firm in 2010. He has expertise in a variety of industries including, healthcare, hospitality management and real estate.  Additionally, Ben specializes in tax planning for high net worth individuals and works with owners’ of closely held businesses on tax strategy as well as multi-state taxation.   He is a member in the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountant (NYSSCPA).

Heidi Valgoi, CPA – Senior Staff Accountant

Heidi has over twenty years of tax and accounting experience, fifteen of them in public accounting. Much of her career has involved servicing the accounting and tax needs of high net worth individuals and small to mid-sized companies predominately in the real estate, construction, insurance and professional service industries. In addition to her vast taxation and financial statement experience, she also has extensive knowledge with QuickBooks and helps businesses design and implement effective accounting systems for clients. Heidi is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Peggy Fredericks – Senior Staff Accountant

Peggy has been with the firm since 1998. Previously, she worked in private industry as a business analyst and a benefit administrator. Peggy specializes in accounting for healthcare practices. She provides tax and financial planning services for high net worth individuals.

BrieAnne Ficarra, CPA – Staff Accountant

BrieAnne joined the firm in 2007 as an administrative intern and has since diligently worked her way up through our ranks. She is currently a Staff Accountant. Brie specializes in accounting for restaurants, medical practices, law firms and preparation of personal income tax returns. She is a CPA who has been a speaker at the New York State Society of CPA’s on the subject of Practice Continuity and Succession Planning. Brie has also been invited to participate in a panel discussion for young CPAs.

In her time away from the office she has been privileged to study abroad and is proud to have visited 6 out of the 7 continents.

Arman Hossain – Staff Accountant

Specialties: My career just started but I want to specialize in accounting for trust and estates, healthcare, real estate, and high net worth individuals.

Beth O’Brien – Audit Manager

Beth serves as the Audit Manager, overseeing all attestation engagements since joining Perlson LLP in December of 2016.  Beth is an experienced auditor, bringing over 15 years of experience in external financial reporting, technical accounting research, financial accounting and internal controls.  She has extensive experience auditing ERISA Pension Plans. Prior to joining Perlson LLP, she worked for two small boutique accounting firms.  Beth served as Vice President of External Reporting at Credit Suisse where her responsibilities included preparation of the financial statements for all of Credit Suisse’s U.S. based entities.  Beth’s experience also includes time at TD Waterhouse and began her career working in the audit practice of PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Anthony Artz – Staff Accountant

Anthony joined the firm in 2017. He specializes in performing audits and has experience with auditing ERISA Pension Plans. In addition to audits Anthony prepares both corporate and partnership income tax returns. Previously his work at Marcum LLP included audits of hedge and private equity funds and their related companies in the Alternative Investments Group. In his free time Anthony enjoys soccer, hockey and woodworking.

Bernard Rappaport, CPA - Tax Principal

Bernard Rappaport, CPA, is a tax principal at Perlson LLP specializing in estate planning and taxation of closely held businesses. His client base consists of high net worth individuals, trust and estates, real estate owners, law firms and money managers. Bernie has assisted clients with sophisticated estate tax, income tax, charitable planning and multi-generational issues. Additionally, he has counseled clients on residency issues and represented them on New York State residency tax audits.
 
With regard to estate planning, Bernie has been involved with many high net worth families utilizing valuation techniques, family partnerships and charitable entities.  He has been involved in estate administration matters for a range of estates worth $10 million to $400 million, and has represented taxpayers before the IRS on valuation issues and deductibility of administrative expenses. Additionally, he has been involved in estate planning for real estate families in valuation and gifting, income tax planning for real estate dispositions (i.e. tax free exchanges, co-op and condominium conversions, dealer and transfer tax issues) and the use of Freeze transactions to reduce the taxation of wealth transfers.
 
Bernie has served on the Partnership and Closely Held Business committees of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA). He is a former chair of its Estate Planning Committee and remains a member today.
 
Bernie has chaired the annual S Corporation Conference for the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and testified in Washington on proposed partnership regulations. A frequent speaker, author and webinar presenter, he has written several articles for professional publications and spoken on estate planning, valuation, and partnership taxation.

Sumayia Anwar, CPA - Director of Taxation

Sumayia has been at Perlson LLP since 2003, except for a short stint at a large financial services firm. Her experience in the private sector taught her she has a passion for public accounting. Her expertise in tax, particularly tax research, allows her to advise clients on a wide range of strategic issues regarding profitability consulting and tax planning.

Sumayia is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA). She also belongs to the Network of Young Bangladeshi Professionals (NYBAP).

Linda Binello, CPA – Senior Tax Accountant

Linda is a Senior Financial Planner for JP Wealth Management, Inc. and income tax specialist for Perlson LLP. Linda is also an adjunct professor at Nassau Community College where she has been teaching Personal Finance for over 15 years. Before joining JP Wealth, Linda worked for many years in the area of banking and finance. She earned her MBA from Hofstra University and her CPA license in 2003.


Administrative Department

Angela Remsen - Firm Administrator

Angela is the Firm Administrator of Perlson LLP.  She joined the firm in 2001 and has over 20 years of extensive private and public management experience which include her prior roles at Neuberger Berman and local governmental service. Angela handles all aspects of the firm’s administration including daily operations, media technology and mentorship for our college internship program. She coordinates the processing of personal, estate and trust income tax returns during tax season and oversees the maintenance of our client document portal.

Angela is proficient in the support of executive-level principals and their corresponding responsibilities and needs. She works closely with staff to ensure that Perlson LLP continues to deliver superior accounting and financial services to our clientele based upon her impeccable professional skill set.

Angela embodies Perlson LLP’s entrepreneurial spirit and maintains business ventures outside of her professional duties at the firm. Angela and her husband are the proud parents of two sons and are passionate about family, traveling, and volunteerism.

Lois Moser - Administrative Assistant

Lois joined the firm in 2006 as our Administrative Assistant. She has a diverse background in business support and excels at providing administrative assistance to our clientele. Lois handles much of the firm’s billing and accounts receivable duties. She takes great pride in her work and finds joy in making sure the team at Perlson LLP have what they need to be successful. Her work is driven by a genuine desire to make people happy. Lois is a travel specialist and is responsible for the firm’s travel arrangements. She is a Notary commissioned in the state of NY and enjoys swimming and her pets.

JP Wealth Management, Inc.

JP Wealth Management, Inc. is a registered investment advisory firm founded by and available only to clients of Perlson LLP. The company’s philosophy is centered on helping our clients achieve their financial goals. Consequently, the financial planning process begins with a meeting at which our advisors gather information about your financial situation and then define and prioritize your goals making realistic assessments about the future. Next, we coordinate with your legal and other advisors to minimize income and estate taxes. Once we have obtained a detailed understanding of your financial circumstances, including your long-term cash flow situation, we begin the portfolio planning process.

Once our clients’ portfolios are planned and in place, we review them at least quarterly and rebalance them as necessary according to client needs market and economic conditions and other influential factors. Performance reporting is done on a quarterly basis and benchmarked to client goals annually.
